My nephew is seriously ill in hospital. Any recommendations?

My 11 year old nephew is seriously ill in hospital. What is used for sick children in feng shui? He is going to be in hospital for a while is there anything I could put in his room?

Please calculate your Nephew’s Kua number and have him sleep with his head pointing his Health direction espcially while in the hospital. At home, move his bed to point to his health direction also even though he is not sleeping there at the moment. Ensure that his head is backed by a solid wall when recovering and nothing threatening is placed on top of his head (beams, shelves, etc) when sleeping. Poison arrows will only escalate the problem! See my Kua directions article to determine his Kua number and where his health direction is located. You might like to place symbols of longevity around him – such as cranes, the symbol of “SAU” or the Fuk Luk Sau statues around. Bamboo plants are also a symbol of health and long life.. Avoid sending him White flowers – if they are sent from people, throw them away or take them home and don’t bring it into his hospital ward. White flowers are symbolic for funerals and has really bad meaning when sent to someone who is ill. Hope he recovers soon – and do write to my stories section when his condition improves!

Be mindful of the Grand Duke and the Three Killings

Someone wrote to me asking about renovating at the Grand Duke Jupiter and 3 Killings.

We are about to lay a tiled Kitchen floor in the area of Three Killings and Grand Duke. It would involve drilling screws into the floorboards to secure the plywood onto the floor. And noise from cutting the tiles. I suppose we could just lay them onto the floor without screwing, but it wouldnt be as even. Or do we have to wait till next year? We have already done work end of last year in the south (didnt know about Grand Duke then.) and I have had no work for 3 months since! How long will the bad luck last?

It is considered very dangerous (fengshui-wise) to do rennovation in the GDJ and 3 Killings of that particular year. If possible you should wait till the following year and if the same sector is unafflicted you can then renovate. If you have already started renovating in an area which is normally occupied by the GDJ, then feng shui masters recommend “appeasing” or nullifying the pernicious energy through the placing a Pi Kan or Pi Yao mythical creature on the GDJ facing its direction. The PiYao and PiKan have no anuses – so it symbolically swallows up all the bad energy and doesn’t let it out! One loop-hole you can exploit, is that as long as you don’t start or end your renovation at any of the afflicted areas, you would be OK.

What is the Pat Chee Reading vs Flying Star Reading?

What is the difference between a Pat Chee (Ba-Zi) reading and a Flying Star Reading? And what about 8 Mansions?

The Pat Chi or BaZi is actually a “Destiny Analysis” or a Life Reading. Using your birth date, birth location, and birth hour, experts in this field can calculate and fortell events that will occur in your life and your life cycle. Everyone has Waning, Waxing and Heightened cycles in their life. Waning cycles are when times are low or not so lucky, and Waxing cycles are when times are high and very lucky. Some masters of this field claim that they can even calculate the exact time of your death but these masters are very very expensive and extremely rare to find! In the trinity luck principle, a Destiny reading charts your life events and offers clues to your Heaven luck – or rather what Heaven has in store for you.
A Flying Star analysis is a feng shui evaluation on your HOUSE and not on your personal self. In a way you can say that the Flying Star reading is like a destiny reading on the house. Each house has a Natal Chart, depending on when it was built or “born”. A Flying Star reading assesses the quality of the chi of the house based on its birthdate and like your destiny reading, has time cycles associated with it. Some areas of the home are good, but in some months or days, bad stars can fly in and ruin the good energy there. Some bedrooms are so bad, but in some months, the severity is reduced. The good and bad chi of the home affects those who live in them, and can bring either great wealth and prosperity or grave misfortune depending on where the residents reside.

8 Mansions is a formula that bridges the gap between you and the house. Using the formula, we can assess which areas of the house are good for an individual based on their birthdate. Some areas of the home bring good luck to the individual, and some areas bring bad luck. The Main door direction is especially important.

Can I put a fishing pond with water fall at the side of my gate?

One reader wrote to me asking…

I just bought a new house which is under renovation at the moment. Can I put a fishing pond with water fall at the side of my gate (i.e. inside looking out on my left)?

Yes. Inside looking out on left is OK. However I do suggest you check the flying star of that quardrant before proceeding because if you put water in the wrong place you run the risk of serious financial loss! A friend of mine built a pond on the mountain 8 star and went from booming business to bankrupt within a year. If you’re not sure, get a professional feng shui consultant to do it. Important note: Make sure the waterfall is flowing INWARDS towards you!

Is my new house Period of 7 or Period of 8 if it is ready by 2003?

One reader wrote to me saying..

My new house is under contruction now in year 2002 and would be ready in 2003, so is it a period 7 house or period 8 house? My present house is a period 7 house, can I change it to period 8 house by doing some minor renovations, like breaking a wall?

Your new house will be a Period of 7 house. Tell your contractor to leave a small part of the roof unclosed until Feb 4 2004. Then close it up after that. As for your current house, unless it is a very major big wall, no – you need to either renovate the whole house, or symbolically lift the roof and replace it. Some masters recommend banging rituals that you can do that will change the period of the house.

Does the Sum of 10 override all other flying star afflictions?

One reader wrote to me saying..

My house is sitting facing North (the front door is approx. 2deg North.) Based flying stars (the period, mountain and water stars) the house is a perfect 10 on all palaces. The sum of ten brings excellent decent luck and that it override all other rules of the flying star system, including the five Yellow. But annual and monthly stars continue to give some inauspicious reading that were bang on. Am I missing something?

Honey’s Answer:

No, the Sum of 10 rule does not override the annual and monthlys. Sum of 10 means that generally everything is good, and all the quardrants are in harmony and the quality of the chi is better than normal. But you still need to activate sectors that have good stars and suppress sectors that have bad stars – this is especially true for monthly and annual stars. Do not underestimate the annuals and monthlys as those are the most potent and have the most effect on your life. A room that already has the 5 natal/mountain/water star will become doubly worrisome when the annual and monthly 5 star flies in.

Noisy Apartment Near Main Road!

One reader wrote to me..

Recently, we just moved in to a HDB or government flat in Singapore which is near to a main road where the traffic is quite high during the peak hour. Also in the night where it is quiet and some buses and motorcycles movement can be very noisy. How we can we improve such a situation?

Honey’s Answer:

Noise can be a good thing as it brings yang energy into your apt – unless – the noise is very quarrelsome – such as non-stop horns blaring on end or people arguing. However, if the noise carries on and on without stopping at night, it starts to overpower the house with Chi, and cause difficulty in resting. Bedrooms are where noise is discouraged. Too much noise in the bedroom will make you quarrel with your partner! Try using thick drapes to cover your windows or keep your windows closed. This will minimise the noise coming from the road at night.

Are House on Stilts Good Feng Shui?

One reader wrote to me saying:

I have an unusual problem – I live in a house on stilts – about 50 feet off the ground. There are not any beams that send energy into this small living space – all of the beams are on the corners of the house, which is attached to the top of the ravine. Any suggestions for living in a de facto tree house, cautions, warnings, remedies? I would appreciate this very much – 8 years of semi-casual reading about feng shui and I haven’t come across any mention of this situation..

Honey’s Answer:

I’m afraid that living on stilts (where you can see a wide gap between the house and the ground) could be considered inauspicious. The idea of a house having no land beneath it represents NO support from below and all around. A house on the hill has the same problem but even a house on a hill has land directly beneath it. If the gap were quite small I’d recommend gibbing up around the stilts to give the appearance of land. Paint the gib a stone colour or better still, use real bricks instead of gib board.

Land behind lower than front!

One reader wrote to me asking:

We have bought a house (facing South East from the main door). Our land is hilly in the front of the house and at the back our neighbour’s house is lower than ours. Our front garden is bit higher that our house if we look at it front the main lounge looking outside the window. Is this a good house if we have this kind of landscape? On my left house I have a passage to park the car towards the workshop and if it is raining the water runs towards our workshop/garage.

Honey’s Answer:

Congrats on your new house! It’s really hard to judge landscape formations without viewing it firsthand but from your description, it appears that the land in front of the house is a little higher than the land behind. If this is only a slight elevation then don’t worry. However, if your back of the house has a steep fall, then unfortunately this is considered quite inauspicious in feng shui as it symbolises your back being exposed and obstacles in your undertakings. Also, with rain water flowing into your house all the time, it indicates that obstacles can overwhelm the household when times get a little tougher. I would recommend planting a row of very tall trees in your backyard (perhaps pine trees) and place a heavy garden porcelain turtle/tortise at the back of your house to symbolise support from the Black Turtle. Dig a trench or a small drain in the front so that the water won’t flood the house.

Are black roof tiles considered good feng shui?

When judging whether an object is good or bad in a particular area, consider the make and colour of the object. This will give you clues to whether its placement is suitable.

One reader wrote to me asking:

I would like to know if it is ok to have silver black roof tiles like the roofs I see in homes in Suzhou. Does the colour of the roof have any real impact on the energy of the house?

Some feng shui masters consider silver black tiles to represent water and symbolically, having water above the head means you’ve drowned. The same intepretation is applied with the use of blue roof tiles. I personally subscribe to this belief – and prefer gray, red, green or brown tiles. However, it is a matter of debate in the feng shui world and I leave it to you to decide.

Remember that Colours used in feng shui are associated with the elements they represent. Here’s a simplified version for colours as a guide:

  • Water – Blue, Black
  • Wood – Green
  • Earth – Yellow, Mustard, Brown
  • Fire – Red, Orange
  • Metal – Gold, Silver, Gray, White
