Exposed beams are bad news in feng shui - and one is never advised to sleep under one that cuts across the bed. This brings headaches and stress. If the beam cuts across a couple it is said to bring a rift between the couple. One reader asked:
I have an over-head beam in my bedroom directly above my bed. I have heard that windchimes can cure this. Is hanging a wind-chime in bedroom OK? If yes, please tell me number of rods the wind-chime should have ?
Best solution is to move the bed. If you cannot do so, you need a symbolic cure. Windchimes are not the answer. The classical symbolic cure is to hang a pair of bamboo flutes from the beam, with the mouth of the flute ending up just below the beam. Flutes are considered to contain powerful chi-forces that can hold up all the bad chi that emanates from the beams. You can also paint the beam the same colour as the ceiling to make it blend in or symbolically “disappear”.
