Land behind lower than front!

One reader wrote to me asking:

We have bought a house (facing South East from the main door). Our land is hilly in the front of the house and at the back our neighbour’s house is lower than ours. Our front garden is bit higher that our house if we look at it front the main lounge looking outside the window. Is this a good house if we have this kind of landscape? On my left house I have a passage to park the car towards the workshop and if it is raining the water runs towards our workshop/garage.

Honey’s Answer:

Congrats on your new house! It’s really hard to judge landscape formations without viewing it firsthand but from your description, it appears that the land in front of the house is a little higher than the land behind. If this is only a slight elevation then don’t worry. However, if your back of the house has a steep fall, then unfortunately this is considered quite inauspicious in feng shui as it symbolises your back being exposed and obstacles in your undertakings. Also, with rain water flowing into your house all the time, it indicates that obstacles can overwhelm the household when times get a little tougher. I would recommend planting a row of very tall trees in your backyard (perhaps pine trees) and place a heavy garden porcelain turtle/tortise at the back of your house to symbolise support from the Black Turtle. Dig a trench or a small drain in the front so that the water won’t flood the house.
